When the Tivoli Theatre opened on Christmas Day in 1928, 4,000 people lined up to see what newspapers called the “Wonder Theatre of suburban Chicago.”The French-Renaissance-style theatre was one of the first theatres in the country built to show “talkies.”
Lovingly restored to its grandeur by the Johnson Family, the Tivoli is one of the survivors of the era of the “movie palace.” Today the Tivoli shows recent films at a bargain price seven days a week. Movie-goers enjoy the historic architecture with a state-of-the-art 4K digital picture and sound presentation. In recent years, an increasing number of live events have taken place on the theatre’s stage.
