Inspiration for this Cherries of Door County Afternoon Tea came from a trip to Door County last summer, visiting the many farm markets that make all types of sweet and savory items using locally grown cherries: jams, salsas, salad dressings, cider, syrup, pie filling, mustard and spreads. I wove the flavors of tart and sweet cherries throughout the menu, from beginnings to sweet endings. Lautenbach’s in Fish Creek and Wildwood Farm Market in Sister Bay were two of my favorite markets. Door County cherries are a hallmark of Wisconsin heritage, especially the Montmorency tart variety. The cherries blossom in mid-May and are ready to pick midsummer.
