SUMMARY:A Night at the Carnegie - DG Library to receive Historic Site Designation
DESCRIPTION:The Downers Grove Historical Society and the Downers Grove Public Library invite you to “A Night at the Carnegie\,” celebrating the Library as this year’s Historic Site of the Year. Each year\, the Downers Grove Historical Society honors a building or site that has played an important role in our village’s history. This year\, we mark a special anniversary: On October 14\, 1915—exactly 110 years ago—the Downers Grove Carnegie Library opened on the very site where our public library now stands. It quickly became a cornerstone of knowledge\, education\, and civic pride for our community. The evening will include historical displays and photographs\, the unveiling of an informational bronze plaque\, a presentation by local historian Lois Sterba\, and hands-on activities for children. This free\, family-friendly event is open to the public.

SUMMARY:Anderson's Bookshop - Banned Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Banned Book Club\n\nJoin us in Downers Grove for our monthly Banned Book Club! Our next meeting will be held on Thursday\, October 16th at 6:00 pm\, and we will be discussing The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This will be a free event\, but we highly encourage the purchase of the monthly book from our store. Please note that the author will not be present at this event. \nMore about The Perks of Being a Wallflower:   \n“A timeless story for every young person who needs to understand that they are not alone.” —Judy Blume \n“Once in a while\, a novel comes along that becomes a generational touchstone. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of those books.” —R. J. Palacio\, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wonder \nThis #1 New York Times bestselling coming-of-age story with millions of copies in print takes a sometimes heartbreaking\, often hysterical\, and always honest look at high school in all its glory. \nThe critically acclaimed debut novel from Stephen Chbosky follows observant “wallflower” Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. First dates\, family drama\, and new friends. Sex\, drugs\, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss\, young love\, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it\, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up. \nA #1 New York Times bestseller for more than a year\, adapted into a major motion picture starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson (and written and directed by the author)\, and an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults (2000) and Best Book for Reluctant Readers (2000)\, this novel for teen readers (or wallflowers of more-advanced age) will make you laugh\, cry\, and perhaps feel nostalgic for those moments when you\, too\, tiptoed onto the dance floor of life. \nAbout the Author:\nStephen Chbosky wrote and directed the feature film adaptation of his award-winning novel\, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. He has worked in film and television\, on projects including the film version of the smash-hit musical Rent; the TV show Jericho; and others. He also edited Pieces\, a collection of short stories. A native of Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, Chbosky graduated from the University of Southern California’s Filmic Writing Program. His first film\, The Four Corners of Nowhere\, premiered at Sundance Film Festival.

SUMMARY:Anderson's Bookshop - Alan Barillaro
DESCRIPTION:Alan Barillaro\n\nJoin Anderson’s Bookshop for an author event with Alan Barillaro\, to celebrate the release of Bunns Rabbit\, on Friday\, October 17th at 6:00 pm in our Downers Grove store.\n \nEvent Format \nWe will begin checking you in approximately 30 minutes before the start time. After a presentation and Q&A with the author\, the line will form in numbered order with the following guidelines: \n\nPosed photo with your camera taken by our staff\nThere is a limit of 2 books from home to be signed (unless otherwise stated)\nThere is a limit of 1 personalization of the new book only (unless otherwise stated)\n\nAll events have open seating. You will line up to meet the author based on that number. \nIf you cannot attend\, you must pick up your book (if included with ticket) at the hosting store within 30 days of the event.  We can ship that book to you for an additional charge of $9.99; please call the store to arrange that. \nPre-registration is required for this event because space is limited. \n\nMore about Bunns Rabbit:   \nFor anyone who has ever felt different\, Academy Award winner Alan Barillaro tells the deeply moving tale of a brave rabbit who sets out on a quest to save her home and family—no matter what it takes. \nWhen Bunns is born with small but perfectly functional rabbit ears\, the warren is abuzz with auguries. Surely such short ears spell bad luck for the community. Sheltered in her family’s burrow\, Bunns listens to the rhythm of her mother’s heartbeat—Thump\, thump\, thump—a song of home and belonging. Her father explains that unlike a rabbit’s words or thumping feet\, a heartsong cannot lie. But the unknown world of the meadow\, the sounds and smells above\, call to Bunns. When at last she’s ready to brave the staring and whispering of neighbors who fear her because she’s different\, and the disapproving elders who threaten to banish her family\, she finds a world beyond the warren where myths and riddles\, magic voyages\, and important new friends await. Can the “bad omen bunny” follow her own heartsong to a destiny—a wish—meant just for her? Academy Award–winning director\, writer\, and animator Alan Barillaro’s graceful storytelling\, warm illustrations\, and dramatic graphic panels weave light and dark into a seamless tapestry to enchant children and adults alike. \nAbout the Author: \nAlan Barillaro is the author of the acclaimed debut Where the Water Take Us and the middle grade illustrated novel\, Bunns Rabbit. The Academy Award-winning writer and director of the animated short film Piper\, he has been supervising animator on numerous popular theatrical releases\, including The Incredibles\, WALL-E\, and Brave. He has been honored with an ASIFA-Hollywood Award\, an ICFF Award for Outstanding Career and was recognized by House Commons of Canada for his artistic and cultural contribution to the city of Niagara Falls\, Ontario. He began his career in animation at the age of sixteen and spent twenty-five years at Pixar Animation Studios. Alan Barillaro lives in California.

SUMMARY:Fair Game - Magic the Gathering - Friendly Neighborhood Draft
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Friendly Neighborhood Draft \nMagic Presents: Friendly Neighborhood Draft is a special in-store Magic event series\, running through November 13\, 2025. It spotlights the Pick-Two Draft format—a streamlined\, four-player drafting experience ideal for small groups and casual play. This event series features the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man set and is great for introducing players to the format while making drafting fast\, friendly\, and accessible. \nUnlike traditional eight-player drafts\, Pick-Two Drafts allow each player to select two cards per pick\, reducing the number of participants needed while maintaining strategic depth and fun. Games are played in pods with a minimum of four players. If more players join in the pods will be formed as follows: \n\n3–7 players: 1 pod\n8–11 players: 2 pods\n12–15 players: 3 pods\nEtc.\n\n \nPlayers then compete in a two round Swiss tournament. The undefeated (2–0) player(s) from each pod will receive the event promo card “Ultimate Green Goblin” (while supplies last). \nDon’t miss out on your chance to join us for this exciting new way to draft with friends. Reserve a seat today! \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n
