SUMMARY:Pinecone Cottage Tea House - Mayan Xcalak Beach Party Afternoon Tea
DESCRIPTION:There is at least one beach town that has stayed small in Mexico\, but you literally have to get off the beaten path to find it! Last Spring\, Paul and I drove one and a half hours south of Tulum and went off grid for a week\, in the simple fishing village of Xcalak. Xcalak is the most southern town in Mexico\, on the Mexican Caribbean coast just near Belize. We enjoyed the lack of resorts\, shopping and banks\, and enjoyed the ecotourism. We then returned to Tulum and took a hands on cooking class at Rivera’s Kitchen. In Lily’s home kitchen\, we explored traditional Mayan cuisine\, preparing everything from scratch and gaining a deeper appreciation for the region’s flavors. This late summer afternoon tea menu is inspired by our two weeks in this beautiful Caribbean area filled with colorful and delicious ingredients. \n\nChef Pam \nAfternoon Tea Served by Reservation Only\nAge Requirement 13 yrs +\nThree Course Prix Fixe Afternoon Tea | 62\nGluten Free\, Dairy Free\, Vegetarian or Vegan Options | 67\nPrice Includes 20% Gratuity\nBYOB Wine or Beer | 10 per bottle \nRecommended Teas\nFeatured Tea – Refreshing Watermelon-Lychee\nBeverage – Golden Starfruit Iced Tea\nTeatail – Pear-Berry Kiss \nBeginnings\nMexican Salad with Potatoes in Green Sauce with Banana-Date Bread \nSavories and PineScones\nChicken Al Pastor Salad Tea Sandwich\nStuffed Poblano Pepper Tortilla Cup\nMayan Shrimp and Corn Salad Tea Sandwich\nBlack Bean and Artichoke Tostada\nCoconut-Almond-Orange PineScone with Almond Devon Crème and Orange Marmalade \nSweet Endings\nArroz con Leche\nCaramel Flan Cheesecake\nMexican Chocolate Poundcake with Mango and Berries \nPinecone Cottage Cancellation Policy\nPinecone Cottage is a small\, locally owned business\, and we truly value each of our guests. SUMMARY:Tivoli Theatre - After Hours Film Society Presents Dick Biondi: The Voice that Rocked America
DESCRIPTION:MOVIE REVIEW\nThe Rock ‘N’ Roll DJ Who Changed Radio: The Wild I-Tralian\, Dick Biondi\n\nIn the 1950s and ’60s\, rock ’n’ roll swept across America\, driven by the power of radio. But it was the disc jockeys who held the real sway: deciding what records to spin and\, in doing so\, shaping the soundtrack of a generation. With bands vying for airplay and DJs battling to be number one\, an original and irreverent voice cut through the noise: the Wild I-Tralian\, Dick Biondi.Biondi didn’t just play the hits—he made them. He helped break The Beatles and The Beach Boys to American audiences\, and championed young artists like Elvis Presley\, Little Richard\, Bobby Darin\, and The Rolling Stones. His rebellious\, fast-talking style clashed with radio management\, and he was famously fired from dozens of stations—but the kids adored him. \nIf rock ’n’ roll was the heartbeat of hot-blooded teenage America\, Dick Biondi was its voice. \nABOUT THE FILM\nThe Voice That Rocked America: The Dick Biondi Story is a one-hour\, grassroots fan documentary about Hall of Fame radio disc jockey Dick Biondi. For over six decades\, Dick’s on-air energy\, humor\, and unwavering support of new talent built an enduring connection with audiences and musicians alike.\nTold through rare archival photos and footage\, re-creations\, and interviews with recording artists\, broadcasters\, friends\, fans\, and Biondi himself\, the film captures the spirit of a broadcasting pioneer whose passion changed lives—on both sides of the microphone. \nNarrated by Award-Winning Filmmaker Pamela Enzweiler-Pulice\, whose own life was transformed after meeting her teenage idol\, The Voice That Rocked America is both a tribute and a love letter to the power of radio\, rock ’n’ roll\, and fandom itself. \nWho’s in the film? Rock stars\, radio stars\, and Dick Biondi himself!  The original Jersey Boy\, Frankie Valli\, Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of The Beach Boys\, Paul Shaffer (The Late Show with David Letterman)\, Tony Orlando\, Walt Parazaider (Chicago)\, Frankie Avalon\, TV & radio personality Bob Sirott\, John Records Landecker (Hall of Fame Broadcaster)\, Jim Peterik (The Ides of March and Survivor)\,  Carl Giammarese\,  Dennis Tufano\, and Nick Fortuna (The Buckinghams)\, Comedian Tom Dreesen\, Jimy Sohns (The Shadows of Knight)\, and more. \nIn the 1950s and ’60s\, rock ’n’ roll swept across America\, driven by the power of radio. But it was the disc jockeys who held the real sway: deciding what records to spin and\, in doing so\, shaping the soundtrack of a generation. With bands vying for airplay and DJs battling to be number one\, an original and irreverent voice cut through the noise: the Wild I-Tralian\, Dick Biondi. \nAbout the Filmmaker: Pam Enzweiler-Pulice grew up during the 1950s and 1960s in Villa Park\, Illinois\, a blue-collar suburb of Chicago. From a young age\, Pam’s interests were always creative. She listened to music\, directed the neighborhood kids in a play\, and wrote stories. During a low point in her late twenties\, Pam destroyed her “childish” stories and poems in a fire. But the creative urges persisted. \n“It wasn’t until I was well into my sixties that I truly followed my heart and believed in myself\,” says Pam. “At the age of 77\, I finally realized a creative dream by making the Dick Biondi film.” Persistence paid off\, but the creative pursuit has been quite a journey.

SUMMARY:Anderson's Bookshop - Marcus Kliewer
DESCRIPTION:Join Anderson’s Bookshop for an author event with Marcus Kliewer\, to celebrate the release of The Caretaker\, on Wednesday\, August 12th at 6:00 pm in our Downers Grove store. Event Format \nWe will begin checking you in approximately 30 minutes before the start time. After a presentation and Q&A with the author\, the line will form in numbered order with the following guidelines: \n\nPosed photo with your camera taken by our staff\nThere is a limit of 2 books from home to be signed (unless otherwise stated)\nThere is a limit of 1 personalization (unless otherwise stated)\n\nAll events have open seating. The “Order Line Number” on your pdf ticket is your reserved place in the signing line. You will line up to meet the author based on that number. \nIf you cannot attend\, you must pick up your book (if included with ticket) at the hosting store within 30 days of the event.  We can ship that book to you for an additional charge of $9.99; please call the store to arrange that. \nPre-registration is required for this event because space is limited. \nMore about The Caretaker: \nInstant New York Times Bestseller \nFollow the Rites… \nNothing less than the survival of humanity is at stake. \nFrom Marcus Kliewer\, a new “titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig\, #1 New York Times bestselling author)\, comes an eerie supernatural horror about a young woman who accepts a caretaking job from Craigslist\, only to discover the position has consequences far greater—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined. \nEXCITING OPPORTUNITY:\nCaretaker urgently needed. Three days of work. Competitive pay. Serious applicants ONLY. \nMacy Mullins can’t say why the job posting grabbed her attention—it had the pull of a fisherman’s lure\, barbed hook and all—vaguely ominous. But after an endless string of failed job interviews\, she’s not exactly in the position to be picky. She has rent to pay\, groceries to buy\, and a younger sister to provide for. \nBesides\, it’s only three days’ work… \nThree days\, cooped up in a stranger’s house\, surrounded by Oregon Coast wilderness. \nWhat starts as a peculiar side gig soon becomes a waking nightmare. An incomprehensible evil may dwell on this property—and Macy Mullins might just be the only thing standing between it\, and the rest of humanity. \nFollow the Rites… \nFollow the Rites… \nFollow the Rites… \n..— / ….. / —.. \nAbout the Author:  \nMarcus Kliewer is a writer and stop-motion animator. His debut novel We Used to Live Here began life as a serialized short story on Reddit. Film rights were snapped up by Netflix\, and it was acquired by Simon & Schuster in the US for publication even before it had been extended into a full-length novel. He lives in Vancouver\, Canada.

SUMMARY:Anderson's Bookshop - Romance Reads Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Downers Grove for our monthly Romance Reads Book Club! Our next meeting will be held on Thursday\, August 13th at 7:00 pm\, and we will be discussing Dearly Departed. This will be a free event\, but we highly encourage the purchase of the monthly book from our store. \nPlease note that the author will not be in attendance at this event! This conversation will be moderated by Anderson’s bookseller Sheila. \nMore about Dearly Departed:   \n“Pons writes romance that burns with heart\, humor\, and spectacular heat. I’m obsessed with this!” —Elena Armas\, New York Times bestselling author of The Spanish Love Deception \n“THE romance book of 2026.” —Sara Cate\, New York Times bestselling author of the Salacious Players’ Club \nFor fans of MM romances like Heated Rivalry and The Entanglement of Rival Wizards\, a sexy Hades-inspired gay rom-com\, in which the former god of the Underworld turned grumpy funeral director must find a loophole in the Immortal Retirement Act that banished him to Earth\, until the florist next door begins to unravel all his carefully laid plans. \nHope is a dangerous thing for gods. Even former ones. \nHayden Harlow\, once the mighty Hades\, has spent centuries quietly resenting his fall from immortality. Stripped of his godhood by the allegedly irreversible Immortal Retirement Act\, he now runs Harlow and Sons Funeral Home—a front for his eternal sentencing among mortals\, and a bleak reminder of the purpose he’s lost. Still\, he’s determined to claw his way back…if only the Fates at City Hall would stop toying with him. \nEnter Levi Wilder: a florist with an artist’s heart\, an infectious smile\, and a gift for finding beauty in life’s messiest moments. When Hayden storms into Levi’s shop to complain about a bouquet of sunflowers—an offensive choice for a funeral\, in his opinion—their worlds collide. Hayden is all restraint and shadows; Levi is all sunshine and charm. But beneath the clash lies an undeniable spark neither can ignore. \nAs their connection blossoms\, Hayden finds himself caught between the life he once knew and the bright future Levi dares him to imagine. But trusting Levi means risking the walls he’s kept in place all these years—and it’s not just his heart on the line. Because in the threads of fate\, one choice can change everything. \nAbout the Author: \nChip Pons grew up in a small lake town in Northern Michigan\, where he discovered the kind of stories that make you believe in magic\, love\, and second chances. Now based in Washington\, DC with his dream of a husband and their pup\, Margot\, he writes romances rooted in queer joy and the belief that everyone deserves their happily ever after. When he isn’t writing\, Chip can be found wandering through bookstores\, daydreaming about new characters\, or shouting about his favorite reads on Bookstagram. And snacking\, like\, all the time.
