SUMMARY:Pinecone Cottage Tea House - Cherries of Door County Afternoon Tea
DESCRIPTION:Inspiration for this Cherries of Door County Afternoon Tea came from a trip to Door County last summer\, visiting the many farm markets that make all types of sweet and savory items using locally grown cherries: jams\, salsas\, salad dressings\, cider\, syrup\, pie filling\, mustard and spreads. I wove the flavors of tart and sweet cherries throughout the menu\, from beginnings to sweet endings. Lautenbach’s in Fish Creek and Wildwood Farm Market in Sister Bay were two of my favorite markets. Door County cherries are a hallmark of Wisconsin heritage\, especially the Montmorency tart variety. The cherries blossom in mid-May and are ready to pick midsummer. Let’s get a jump start on spring with our tribute to the Cherries of Door County Afternoon Tea. \n\nChef Pam \nAfternoon Tea Served by Reservation Only\nAge Requirement 13 yrs +\nThree Course Prix Fixe Afternoon Tea | 62\nGluten Free\, Dairy Free\, Vegetarian or Vegan Options | 67\nPrice Includes 20% Gratuity\nBYOB Wine or Beer | 10 per bottle \nRecommended Teas\nLoose Tea – Cherry Passion Sencha\nBeverage – Angel’s Kiss Lemonade | 5\nTeatail – Sparkling Vanilla-Cherry | 7\nVanilla Cream and Japanese Cherry Blossom Teas\, Vanilla and Cherry Syrup\, Non Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé \nBeginnings\nWisconsin Cherry-Pecan-Blue Cheese Salad with Almond-Cherry Tea Bread \nSavories and PineScones\nCherry-Chicken Quichette\nRicotta-Cherry Salsa-Basil Crostini\nFeta-Prosciutto-Balsamic Glaze Pizzette\nBrussels Sprout-Bacon-Cherry-Chevre Tea Sandwich\nOld Fashioned Cherry-Sultana PineScone with Vanilla Devon Crème and Mixed Berry Preserves \nSweet Endings\nMom’s Cherry Cobbler Cake\nCherry-Almond Crunch Bar\nTart Cherry-Chocolate Cheesecake \nPinecone Cottage Weekend Afternoon Tea and Teatorial Policy\nPinecone Cottage is now taking Weekend Afternoon Tea and Event reservations on our website. SUMMARY:Two Way Street Coffee House - Heritage Matinee Series
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the second season of the Heritage Matinee Series at the Two Way Street Coffee House!  We are thrilled to announce the continuation of this successful concert series at the Two Way Street Coffee House\, taking place on select Sunday afternoons in 2026.  In each concert\, Mark Dvorak and Ashley & Simpson will be joined by two local artists for a matinee concert\, all benefitting the Two Way Street Coffee House!  100% of free-will donations collected at each concert will support the Two Way Street Coffee House’s operation and programming.  It’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon\, and it’s a great way to support Two Way Street!  All shows will begin at 3pm (CT) and the doors will open at 2:30pm. \nOn April 12\, 2026 the Two Way Street Coffee House is pleased to present Mark Dvorak\, Ashley & Simpson\, Ren Herr\, and Joseph Kostal as part of our Heritage Matinee Series. \nMark Dvorak \nMark Dvorak is a modern-day troubadour who has never stopped performing\, writing and recording. He has been called “a folk singer’s folk singer” with “an encyclopedic knowledge of traditional songs.” His original songs “wondrous” and “profound.” \nThough Mark often appears in theaters and on festival stages\, he is also at home in a more intimate setting.  His concerts are a mix of the familiar and the new\, traditional folk and standards from the Great American Songbook. He plays authentic country blues guitar and picks great old-time banjo. Mark enjoys involving his audiences in sing-along songs\, just like The Weavers used to do\, and mixes in his own infectious and well-crafted originals. \nAshley & Simpson \nComprised of Jennifer Ashley and Joel Simpson\, Ashley & Simpson are quickly becoming folk scene favorites. This folk duo blends traditional songs and instrumentation along with beautiful vocal harmonies reminiscent of famous duos such as Ian & Silvia and The Everly Brothers. With their sophomore release “Off To Here Land\,” they have pushed the art of folk to a new sound with an all traditional track list that will delight fans new and old.  Both bringing a classical perspective to their duo\, Jennifer Ashley & Joel Simpson have reached a new level with incorporating elements of jazz\, popular music and other modern styles in their arrangements. \nRen Herr \nRen Herr is a local musician who lives in Brookfield\, IL. He grew up singing in choirs in church\, high school and college. When Ren was 18\, he heard some acoustic blues guitar on TV\, and instantly knew he had to make “that sound”. He bought a guitar that week and has been playing ever since. His particular musical influences are Mississippi John Hurt\, Rev. Gary Davis\, Blind Blake\, Dave Van Ronk and Joseph Spence. Ren has sought out expert instruction and has participated in group lessons from guitar greats including Mark Dvorak\, Stefan Grossman\, Woody Mann\, Rory Block\, Bob Brozman\, Eric Lugosch\, and Catfish Keith. \nRen and his wife\, Kathy are proud to be affiliated with Music and Potlucks\, and are members of the Bound for Glory Singers. While Ren started out playing the blues\, his playing has expanded to include ragtime\, folk\, Irish music and hymns. In the past year he has picked up a special and frankly unexplainable passion for waltzes\, and has arranged some of Jay Unger’s numbers for solo fingerstyle guitar. \nRen appreciates a wide variety of musical styles. He loves to travel and collected field recordings while in Tibet. \nJoseph Kostal \nJoseph Kostal is a folk musician based in Cicero\, Illinois\, whose music draws deeply from the American folk revival tradition of the 1940s through the 1960s. A guitarist and emerging banjo player\, Kostal performs traditional folk songs alongside singer-songwriter material\, bringing renewed life to obscure and historically rooted music. \nInspired by artists such as Woody Guthrie\, Pete Seeger\, The Carter Family\, Jackson C. Frank\, and Gordon Bok\, Kostal’s journey began after discovering folk music through WFMT’s Midnight Special and studying at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. His performances reflect a dedication to authenticity\, shaped by ongoing research into the origins and stories behind the songs he sings. \nKostal’s repertoire explores the shared human experience—loneliness\, love\, loss\, and resilience—presented with warmth and sincerity. Though his songs often touch on life’s hardships\, his goal is connection: leaving listeners with the feeling that they are not alone in their experiences. \nHe began performing at Chicago-area open mics in the early 1990s\, including No Exit Café and Fitzgerald’s\, and continues to perform regularly at folk jams and open mic nights with the Friendly Music Community. Outside of music\, Kostal pursues drawing and enjoys working on mathematical problems. \nWe will also host this concert virtually.  You may access the livestream on www.twowaystreet.org\, on our Facebook page\, or on our YouTube channel.  All donations will support the Two Way Street Coffee House. SUMMARY:Tivoli Theatre - After Hours Film Society Presents The Love That Remains
DESCRIPTION:MOVIE REVIEW\nReviewed by Clint Worthington | RogerEbert.comAt first blush\, the subject matter of “The Love That Remains” might clash with writer-director Hlynur Pálmason‘s previous works: Where “Godland” offered an icy glimpse at religion and history\, and “A White\, White Day” consumes itself with grief and revenge\, his latest takes the shape of a warmer\, winsome\, albeit bittersweet family drama. Set\, as always for him\, amid the glaciers and mountains of the Icelandic landscape (captured on 35mm film by Pálmason himself\, who served as his own cinematographer)\, Iceland’s entry for Best International Film at this year’s Oscars places a fractured family amid those gorgeously-rendered locales\, and charts a year in their lives as they try\, good sense be damned\, to make sense of it all.Filmed over the course of years (as is Pálmason’s ever-patient way)\, “The Love That Remains” plays out as a series of strange\, sentimental\, often surrealistic vignettes meant not to chart the chronology of a family in fracture\, but to convey the oddly liminal space they inhabit. Husband Magnus (Sverrir Gudnason)\, or Maggi\, spends long hours on a fishing trawler doing the quotidian work of a working man out on the sea; Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir)\, his recently separated spouse\, is a visual artist struggling to work with metal and rust to create vast tapestries on the sheep and horse-populated acreage of their family ranch. \nTheir three kids—an older daughter and two twin boys\, all played by Pálmason’s real-life children—concern themselves with the everyday play of Icelandic children\, which largely involves building and shooting arrows at an armored mannequin they set up on a cliffside pole. (The fate of this particular golem\, and the arrows these children shoot at it\, make for some brilliant visual gags.) And\, of course\, don’t forget Panda\, the unstoppably cute Icelandic sheepdog that’s so vital to the film’s fabric Pálmason gifts him with his very own card in the opening credits. \nDespite the pall of familial dissolution that falls over every scene\, there’s a deceptive sweetness to “The Love That Remains”‘s simple\, hypnotic rhythms. The Bergman comparisons are cheap\, but apt—think the fly-on-the-wall marital arguments of “Scenes From a Marriage” mixed with the bursts of surrealism that intrude upon “Wild Strawberries” or “Fanny & Alexander.” By the time we peek in on this family\, Maggi and Anna are already separated\, but they haven’t quite locked down the boundaries that come with it. When Maggi’s not out at sea\, they still spend time together\, talking about frustrated dates and doing the hard work of parenting kids who still don’t quite get what’s up with Mom and Dad. (Late in the film\, they still wonder whether their parents have sex. One hopes they still do.) \nAnna appears more settled and secure\, albeit yearning for her art career to take off; in one scene\, a talkative art dealer drags her on a tedious wine lecture before she learns he does not\, in fact\, have a spot for her in his gallery. But Maggi seems more adrift\, lost at sea—a metaphor Pálmason is more than happy to literalize\, like so many others here. He’s a man who simply does not know what to do without the purpose and stability of a family. Maggi bugs Anna during their visits to still have sex sometimes; Anna\, meanwhile\, entertains the occasional thought that she wishes he were dead. \nThis contrast between the warmth of these interactions and the coldness of what’s actually happening to this family allows “The Love That Remains” to flit between naturalism and the fantastical with remarkable unpredictability. The film’s opening shot features a roof being painstakingly torn off a house\, a potent symbol for the destruction of this family unit. Then\, we get the typical kitchen-table routines\, delivered with bittersweet charm by our cast. But every so often\, a giant rooster will invade Magnus’ dreams\, or a sword will fall from the sky next to the dummy in armor that the kids have set up\, Excalibur-like. These slide nicely along the film’s vignette-like structure\, as if clear-eyed moments of familial comfort exist alongside the hazy daydreaming of fantasy. \nIt can read as unapproachable to someone expecting a more straightforward narrative\, but the episodic nature of these vignettes offers glimmers of insight. Pálmason’s wistful compositions\, frequently unfolding in beautiful still tableaus\, take on interesting shades\, whether he’s going for kitchen-sink realism or the kinds of flights of fancy reserved for Roy Andersson pictures. It all feels so very sad\, but also warm and rewarding\, in much the same way we reminisce about our own childhoods\, or the relationships that didn’t work out. \n“The Love That Remains” plays out with remarkable intuition and sensitivity about its troubled characters\, ones who try to love and reckon with hard feelings when those endeavors don’t work out\, and you have to sift through the rubble to find meaning. Some find it in their art; some don’t find it at all. And that floating feeling is one that Pálmason captures expertly\, especially in his patient final frames. \n\nDISCUSSION FOLLOWS EVERY FILM!\n$7.00 Members | $11.00 Non-Members\nTIVOLI THEATRE\n5021 Highland Avenue  |  Downers Grove\, IL\n630-968-0219 |  classiccinemas.com

During Bunny’s childhood she heard all about Dundoon’s bloody history and the “ghostly piper” who roamed the grounds—and soon she’ll be visiting the ancient place with her ghost hunter and psychic co-stars. The annual bagpipe competition in the late piper’s honor will make for some good footage as well. \nAfter Bunny serves a feast fit for a 17th century king\, including lamb chops with plenty of fresh herbs\, she heads outdoors for the ghost hunt. But in the dark\, dense fog\, someone fatally plunges from the clifftop over the loch. The sound that follows is a mournful\, otherworldly bagpipe . . . and once the body of another perished piper is retrieved\, Bunny is determined to solve this Highlands homicide—and prevent a killer from getting off scot-free . . . \nIncludes Delicious Recipes! \nAbout the Author:\nDarci Hannah grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago\, is a graduate of Indiana University\, and currently lives in a small town in Michigan with her husband\, three sons\, and two dogs. She has lived around the Great Lakes all her life and considers them a source of inspiration. When she’s not engaged in a rollicking family adventure\, walking her dogs\, or working at the historic Howell Carnegie District Library\, she’s either baking up a storm or hard at work on her next Beacon Bakeshop Mystery. SUMMARY:Anderson's Book Shop - Banned Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Downers Grove for our monthly Banned Book Club! Our next meeting will be held on Thursday\, April 16th at 6:00 pm\, and we will be discussing Fahrenheit 451. This will be a free event\, but we highly encourage the purchase of the monthly book from our store. Please note that the author will not be present at this event. \n\nMore about Fahrenheit 451:   \nNearly seventy years after its original publication\, Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 stands as a classic of world literature set in a bleak\, dystopian future. Today its message has grown more relevant than ever before.\nGuy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities\, the printed book\, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce\, returning each day to his bland life and wife\, Mildred\, who spends all day with her television “family.” But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor\, Clarisse\, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television\, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. \nAbout the Author:\nRay Bradbury (1920–2012) was the author of more than three dozen books\, including Fahrenheit 451\, The Martian Chronicles\, The Illustrated Man\, and Something Wicked This Way Comes\, as well as hundreds of short stories. He wrote for the theater\, cinema\, and TV\, including the screenplay for John Huston’s Moby Dick and the Emmy Award–winning teleplay The Halloween Tree\, and adapted for television sixty-five of his stories for The Ray Bradbury Theater. He was the recipient of the 2000 National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters\, the 2007 Pulitzer Prize Special Citation\, and numerous other honors. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Related Books & Products\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFahrenheit 451: A Novel\nRay Bradbury\nCurrent price: $17.00\nPaperback\n\n\nISBN:\n9781451673319 \n\n\nPublish Date: 1/10/2012\n\n\n\n\nNearly seventy years after its original publication\, Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 stands as a classic of world literature set in a bleak\, dystopian future. SUMMARY:Bubbly Side of Life - Acrylic Bottle Painting Class
DESCRIPTION:Heather from MAKEArt Studios is here for this fun acrylic painting workshop invites you to create a colorful portrait of your favorite bottle. Your bottle becomes the model for the evening\, sitting perfectly still while you capture its personality on a tall 12 x 4 inch canvas. \nWorking step by step\, you’ll learn simple acrylic techniques that focus on bold color\, loose brushwork\, and graphic shapes rather than fine detail. We’ll observe the curves\, proportions\, and label of the bottle and translate them into a playful\, expressive painting. \nUnlike a human model\, your bottle won’t move\, blink\, or ask for breaks\, making it the perfect subject for a relaxed and forgiving creative experience. \nEach guest will leave with their own bottle portrait—perfect to frame\, gift\, or display as a celebration of a favorite bubbly. \nThis workshop is beginner friendly and all supplies are included. \n*All guests must be 21+. Tickets are non-refundable\, but are transferable with 24 hours notice. \n\n\nBuy Your Ticket Now

SUMMARY:Two Way Street Coffee House Presents Anne Heaton
DESCRIPTION:Two Way Street Coffee House is Chicagoland’s most beloved folk and acoustic music venue\, presenting weekly concerts and community events for over 55 years! The show starts at 8pm (CT) and the doors open at 7:30pm. (Suggested donation $10\, cash or Paypal). We will also host this concert virtually. You may access the livestream on www.twowaystreet.org\, on our Facebook page\, or on our YouTube channel. \nOn Friday\, April 17\, 2026 Two Way Street Coffee House Friday Night Concert Series presents Anne Heaton. \nSinger-songwriter and classically trained pianist Anne Heaton has amassed awards and praise from critics\, fellow artists and fans with her songs that are by turns “tender\, barbed and spiritual” (Washington Post). She’s been featured on the New York Times Music Popcast who called her music “absolutely gorgeous.” She has also played on NPR\, at the Sundance Film Festival and for Lilith Fair in Boston (2010). Known for the infectious energy of her live performances — “a natural performer [with] a rich\, soaring voice” (Seattle Times) —Heaton has played over 1\,000 headlining shows nationwide. She has shared the stage with artists such as Sarah McLachlan and jazz drummer Max Roach. Other artists she has opened for/toured with include Jewel\, Melissa Ferrick\, Paula Cole\, Martin Sexton\, Chris Trapper\, Jonatha Brooke\, Susan Werner\, Dar Williams\, Richard Shindell\, Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney of Saturday Night Live. \nHeaton studied Great Books at the University of Notre Dame\, writing her senior thesis on Debussy’s piano works. She later enriched her musical experience by studying composition and jazz vocals at The City College of New York. Always a big fan of Peter Gabriel\, the Indigo Girls and Tori Amos\, she became fascinated by early American spirituals while living in New York City and sang in a Harlem gospel choir directed by John Motley.\nHeaton has played over 1\,000 headlining shows nationwide.
Let’s get a jump start on spring with our tribute to the Cherries of Door County Afternoon Tea.\nChef Pam \nAfternoon Tea Served by Reservation Only\nAge Requirement 13 yrs +\nThree Course Prix Fixe Afternoon Tea | 62\nGluten Free\, Dairy Free\, Vegetarian or Vegan Options | 67\nPrice Includes 20% Gratuity\nBYOB Wine or Beer | 10 per bottle \nRecommended Teas\nLoose Tea – Cherry Passion Sencha\nBeverage – Angel’s Kiss Lemonade | 5\nTeatail – Sparkling Vanilla-Cherry | 7\nVanilla Cream and Japanese Cherry Blossom Teas\, Vanilla and Cherry Syrup\, Non Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé \nBeginnings\nWisconsin Cherry-Pecan-Blue Cheese Salad with Almond-Cherry Tea Bread \nSavories and PineScones\nCherry-Chicken Quichette\nRicotta-Cherry Salsa-Basil Crostini\nFeta-Prosciutto-Balsamic Glaze Pizzette\nBrussels Sprout-Bacon-Cherry-Chevre Tea Sandwich\nOld Fashioned Cherry-Sultana PineScone with Vanilla Devon Crème and Mixed Berry Preserves \nSweet Endings\nMom’s Cherry Cobbler Cake\nCherry-Almond Crunch Bar\nTart Cherry-Chocolate Cheesecake \nPinecone Cottage Weekend Afternoon Tea and Teatorial Policy\nPinecone Cottage is now taking Weekend Afternoon Tea and Event reservations on our website.
