SUMMARY:Anderson's Bookshop - Francesca Cocchi
DESCRIPTION:Join Anderson’s Bookshop for an author event with Francesca Cocchi\, to celebrate the release of Have a Great Summer\, on Thursday\, August 6th at 6:00 pm in our Downers Grove store. Cocchi will be in conversation with book reviewer Rachel Bush.\n\nEvent Format \nWe will begin checking you in approximately 30 minutes before the start time. After a presentation and Q&A with the author\, the line will form in numbered order with the following guidelines: \n\nPosed photo with your camera taken by our staff\nThere is a limit of 2 books from home to be signed (unless otherwise stated)\nThere is a limit of 1 personalization (unless otherwise stated)\n\nAll events have open seating. The “Order Line Number” on your pdf ticket is your reserved place in the signing line. You will line up to meet the author based on that number. \nIf you cannot attend\, you must pick up your book (if included with ticket) at the hosting store within 30 days of the event.  We can ship that book to you for an additional charge of $9.99; please call the store to arrange that. \nPre-registration is required for this event because space is limited. \nMore about Have a Great Summer: \nSet against a vibrant Jersey Shore backdrop and bursting with summertime romance\, hometown nostalgia\, smart humor\, female friendship\, and millennial angst\, journalist Francesca Cocchi’s dual-timeline teenage-crush-to-adult-lovers debut is the perfect beach read for fans of Annabel Monaghan\, Carley Fortune\, and Emily Henry. \nIf time is supposed to heal all wounds\, Lina Mariano’s broken teenage heart never quite got the message—but 15 sunny\, sandy\, angsty Jersey Shore summers later\, she finds herself unexpectedly facing her old crush\, getting a new perspective—and maybe even a hopeful glimpse of the future . . . \nLina Mariano is stuck—in her hometown\, in her job\, and in the past. And after six years of writing up local weddings as a columnist for a popular lifestyle website\, she’s wholeheartedly sick of nuptials. Worse\, the next one on her list is none other than Sebastian Nikolaou’s. \nWorking high school summers with sweet\, handsome Sebastian at his mother’s iconic beach restaurant\, teenage Lina was totally wrapped up in the way he made her feel—until the night that everything changed. Even so\, she’s embarrassed to admit how often she still thinks of him\, and now\, comparing their present lives is wrenching. It will take a careful look at her younger self\, and some wisdom from the best friend who was there for it all\, to see that making her dreams come true is up to her alone—whether or not those dreams still include Sebastian . . . \nPoignant\, engaging\, and insightful\, Have a Great Summer is an ode to the confused teenager in all of us\, and a reminder of the blissful\, excruciating\, delicious days of summers gone by. \nAbout the Author:  \nFrancesca Cocchi is a writer and editor who has covered food\, commerce\, and other lifestyle subjects for national outlets\, including Food Network Magazine\, The Pioneer Woman Magazine\, and NBC’s TODAY. She holds a degree in English literature from Villanova University and attended New York University’s Summer Publishing Institute. A proud Jersey girl\, she grew up down the shore in Monmouth County and currently lives in Jersey City with her husband and their dog. Find her on Instagram @francescaa_nicolee and TikTok @francesca_cocchi. \nAbout the Conversation Partner: \nRachel Bush is a local teacher\, mom of two\, and a passionate reader. She reviews books of all genres as @RachelReadThese on Instagram and Goodreads\, but her favorites are thrillers\, romances\, and fantasy books. She loves to support independent bookstores and has enjoyed many author events through Anderson’s Bookshop!

ONE STAGE. ONE GREAT NIGHT\n\n\n\n\nTwo Way Street Coffee House’s Friday Night Concert Series continues with another Local Artist Showcase\, featuring two outstanding Illinois singer-songwriters whose music reflects two very different artistic voices. \nChris Rawlins brings thoughtful songwriting\, warm storytelling\, and an easy conversational stage presence. Amelia Harlovic blends classical training with contemporary songwriting\, creating richly lyrical songs delivered with expressive vocals and elegant piano. \nTogether\, they offer an evening of original music\, personal stories\, and memorable performances that celebrate the depth and diversity of our local music community. \nDoors open at 7:30 pm.\nConcert begins at 8:00 pm. \nSuggested Donation: $10\nCash or PayPal accepted. \nUnable to join us in person? The concert will also be livestreamed on our website\, Facebook page\, and YouTube channel. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS\n\n\n\n\nChris Rawlins\n\n\n\n\n\nFor nearly a decade\, Chris Rawlins has been quietly writing\, performing\, and singing his songs\, earning the attention of one listener after another as he’s matured into one of the finest songwriters to claim a space in the Americana music realm. He listens to the past while grounded in the present\, and writes songs that sound both familiar and innovative. \nRawlins has gone from open mic nights to regional and national tours\, and from bedroom demos to a debut album\, Bring on the Rain\, that Americana UK deemed “rich and unforgettable.” He remains determined to grow artistically and professionally\, and his latest release\, Flyover\, is a perfect example of that ambition. \nFlyover is all about growth and change\, but it’s also a homecoming. Growing up in the Midwest was full of longing— Rawlins was raised in Kalamazoo\, MI and left for New York City at the earliest opportunity. When the East Coast became more and more expensive and unfeasible\, he begrudgingly returned home\, but soon found his way to Chicago\, where the city and music community offered a welcome blend of wonder and familiarity. “It took me a long time to appreciate the Midwest… to begin with\, not as many people as you’d think even know how to define it. Is it the area around the Great Lakes? Is it the Plains? Is part of it in Canada? Or is it just corn fields and being polite? And if you add the fact that it’s known as\, ‘fly over country\,’ I think it leaves a lot to the imagination\, and a lot for you to define for yourself\, which it turns out has so much to do with how I think about songwriting\, and the nature of art.” \nThe songs on Flyover are a love letter to the Midwest but also a discontentment towards it. The lyrics are filled with meditations on urban renewal\, loss and rebirth\, and wistfulness mixed with the fear of complacency. Rawlins conjures the indefinable yet familiar mood of a region that has the feeling of returning to a childhood home— sleeping in a bed that seems too small\, trying to reconnect with a past you’ve left behind\, a nostalgic creak in the floorboards that brings back memories of sneaking out of your parent’s home for the freedom of a summer night. \nWith the help of John Abbey at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago\, recording for the album began in the Fall of 2022 and slowly continued\, one song\, or sometimes one instrument at a time until the Spring of 2025. \n“The thread that kept me going during the long recording process was the photograph that I chose for the album cover. A black and white aerial photo that my father took of farmland in Southwest Michigan— it feels eerie yet peaceful at the same time. I knew the songs felt tied to the region I grew up in and I wanted the sound of the album to feel like it could fill up and reverberate through a wide open\, midwestern landscape. I showed the picture to John Abbey\, who was masterful at tapping into the sound I had in mind\, from mic and reverb choices to thinking through instrumentation. Somehow he captured the mood of that photograph into sound.” \nFlyover will be released on October 24th\, 2025. Chris Rawlins continues to reside in Chicago with his wife\, a growing record collection\, and way too many guitars. \n\n\n\n\n\nAmelia Harlovic\n\n\n\n\n\nAmelia Harlovic is a Chicago-based singer and songwriter known for her sincere\, heartfelt lyrics\, classical-pop piano accompaniments and unique vocal stylings. She was raised in Lemont\, IL where her natural affinity for singing was evident from an early age. Like many young singers\, she lent her voice to the church by joining the choir. From there\, she studied piano\, French horn\, and performed in musicals at a nearby theater. Today\, she holds a master of music in classical vocal performance and directs choir in the Northside neighborhood of Lincoln Square. Her first love\, however\, has always been songwriting. She wrote and recorded her first song in her childhood bedroom in 2012 which a friend recorded on an 8 track cassette tape. \nAmelia’s songs mix pop sensibilities with her classical music training. That\, along with her background in theater give her a sound that is performative and lyrically rich. Harlovic began cutting her teeth in the Chicago music scene after completing her music studies in 2018\, lugging her keyboard to venues all over the city. She has appeared at Bookclub\, Sleeping Village\, Uncommon Ground\, Elbo Room\, The Burlington\, Gallery Cabaret\, Harris Theater as well as countless DIY spaces from rooftops to stairwells. In 2026\, she performed at Epiphany Center for the Arts\, Logan Square Improv and October Cafe. You may even catch her busking on a sunny day in one of Chicago’s beloved neighborhoods. \nShe draws her inspiration from heartaches\, headaches and all of the mundane in between. To her\, “anything is game.” From romanticized rides on the CTA\, to the nostalgia trip of a digital camera\, no moment is too insignificant to appear in one of Amelia’s songs. Harlovic’s discography can be found on bandcamp and YouTube.

SUMMARY:Pinecone Cottage Tea House - Mayan Xcalak Beach Party Afternoon Tea
DESCRIPTION:There is at least one beach town that has stayed small in Mexico\, but you literally have to get off the beaten path to find it! Last Spring\, Paul and I drove one and a half hours south of Tulum and went off grid for a week\, in the simple fishing village of Xcalak. Xcalak is the most southern town in Mexico\, on the Mexican Caribbean coast just near Belize. We enjoyed the lack of resorts\, shopping and banks\, and enjoyed the ecotourism. We then returned to Tulum and took a hands on cooking class at Rivera’s Kitchen. In Lily’s home kitchen\, we explored traditional Mayan cuisine\, preparing everything from scratch and gaining a deeper appreciation for the region’s flavors. SUMMARY:Tivoli Theatre - After Hours Film Society Presents Dick Biondi: The Voice that Rocked America
DESCRIPTION:MOVIE REVIEW\nThe Rock ‘N’ Roll DJ Who Changed Radio: The Wild I-Tralian\, Dick Biondi\n\nIn the 1950s and ’60s\, rock ’n’ roll swept across America\, driven by the power of radio. But it was the disc jockeys who held the real sway: deciding what records to spin and\, in doing so\, shaping the soundtrack of a generation. With bands vying for airplay and DJs battling to be number one\, an original and irreverent voice cut through the noise: the Wild I-Tralian\, Dick Biondi.Biondi didn’t just play the hits—he made them. He helped break The Beatles and The Beach Boys to American audiences\, and championed young artists like Elvis Presley\, Little Richard\, Bobby Darin\, and The Rolling Stones. His rebellious\, fast-talking style clashed with radio management\, and he was famously fired from dozens of stations—but the kids adored him. \nIf rock ’n’ roll was the heartbeat of hot-blooded teenage America\, Dick Biondi was its voice. \nABOUT THE FILM\nThe Voice That Rocked America: The Dick Biondi Story is a one-hour\, grassroots fan documentary about Hall of Fame radio disc jockey Dick Biondi. For over six decades\, Dick’s on-air energy\, humor\, and unwavering support of new talent built an enduring connection with audiences and musicians alike.\nTold through rare archival photos and footage\, re-creations\, and interviews with recording artists\, broadcasters\, friends\, fans\, and Biondi himself\, the film captures the spirit of a broadcasting pioneer whose passion changed lives—on both sides of the microphone. \nNarrated by Award-Winning Filmmaker Pamela Enzweiler-Pulice\, whose own life was transformed after meeting her teenage idol\, The Voice That Rocked America is both a tribute and a love letter to the power of radio\, rock ’n’ roll\, and fandom itself. \nWho’s in the film? Rock stars\, radio stars\, and Dick Biondi himself!  The original Jersey Boy\, Frankie Valli\, Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of The Beach Boys\, Paul Shaffer (The Late Show with David Letterman)\, Tony Orlando\, Walt Parazaider (Chicago)\, Frankie Avalon\, TV & radio personality Bob Sirott\, John Records Landecker (Hall of Fame Broadcaster)\, Jim Peterik (The Ides of March and Survivor)\,  Carl Giammarese\,  Dennis Tufano\, and Nick Fortuna (The Buckinghams)\, Comedian Tom Dreesen\, Jimy Sohns (The Shadows of Knight)\, and more. \nIn the 1950s and ’60s\, rock ’n’ roll swept across America\, driven by the power of radio. But it was the disc jockeys who held the real sway: deciding what records to spin and\, in doing so\, shaping the soundtrack of a generation. With bands vying for airplay and DJs battling to be number one\, an original and irreverent voice cut through the noise: the Wild I-Tralian\, Dick Biondi. \nAbout the Filmmaker: Pam Enzweiler-Pulice grew up during the 1950s and 1960s in Villa Park\, Illinois\, a blue-collar suburb of Chicago. From a young age\, Pam’s interests were always creative. She listened to music\, directed the neighborhood kids in a play\, and wrote stories. During a low point in her late twenties\, Pam destroyed her “childish” stories and poems in a fire. But the creative urges persisted. \n“It wasn’t until I was well into my sixties that I truly followed my heart and believed in myself\,” says Pam. “At the age of 77\, I finally realized a creative dream by making the Dick Biondi film.” Persistence paid off\, but the creative pursuit has been quite a journey.
